Play Smarter with Better Golf Course Management

Golf isn’t always about hitting the perfect shot. In fact, one of the easiest ways to lower your score is to make better decisions before you ever swing the club. That’s where course management comes in. Good golf course management means understanding your strengths, recognizing trouble, and choosing shots that give you the best chance of avoiding unnecessary mistakes.

Stop Attacking Every Pin

Just because the flag is on one side of the green doesn’t mean you have to aim directly at it. If the pin is tucked near a bunker, water hazard, or other trouble, consider aiming toward the center of the green. A 25-foot putt is usually a better result than a bunker shot—or worse.

Know Your Miss

Every golfer has a typical miss. Maybe you tend to slice the driver or pull your irons left. Take that into account when choosing your target. If trouble is on the right and your typical miss is right, don’t aim directly at the trouble and hope for your best swing. Give yourself some room.

Think One Shot Ahead

Before hitting an approach shot, consider what happens if you miss the green. Is there a safe place to miss? Can you easily get up and down? Would a different club give you more room? Thinking one shot ahead can help you make smarter decisions throughout the round.

The Jonathan’s Landing Pro Tip

You don’t have to hit the best shot every time to play good golf. You need to make good decisions consistently. Play to your strengths, avoid unnecessary trouble, and remember that sometimes the smartest shot is the one that looks the least exciting. Better decisions can lead to better scores—and a lot more enjoyable rounds at Jonathan’s Landing Golf Course.
